'Louis Vuitton - Marc Jacobs' Exhibition

Curator Pamela Golbin takes fashion journalist Louise Roe to the tour of the 'Louis Vuitton - Marc Jacobs' exhibition. Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs is a story of two personalities and their contributions to the world of fashion : Louis Vuitton, founder of the house of Louis Vuitton in 1854, and Marc Jacobs, its artistic director since 1997. Two innovators , both rooted in their respective centuries, advanced an entire industry. Two creators , each in his own language, appropriated cultural codes and trends in order to shape the history of contemporary fashion.

Cruising through time.....

It is probably London but it could be New York or Paris. It is probably 2011 but it could be 1972. Louis Vuitton's online magazine, New Now, in collaboration with Matthew Donaldson, offers a new perspective of Louis Vuitton's 2012 Cruise collection, stretching time and capturing each exquisite dance movement at a thousand frames per second.

BANG Marc Jacobs.....

BANG by Marc Jacobs, is his new fragrance for men. The steaming image was photographed by Juergen Teller.... but I believe Marc Jacobs is starting to think that he is Tom Ford.

Marc Jacobs Spring/ Summer collections....

The clothes perfectly matched the soundtrack of old school hip-hop segueing to breakbeat electro. Marc Jacobs took a simultaneous retro and forward-thinking approach. The bright bursts of colors were a welcome respite to other dreary black and beige Spring/ Summer collections. The multi-cultural early-90s jungle and hip-hop vibe purveyed. Stand-outs included the updated Cosby Show sweater more suited to Theo rocking it for a party then Dr. Huxtable wearing to the office.

I want These...

Kanye West x Louis Vuitton Sneakers

Kanye West has officially turned sneaker designer. The hip-hop star and self-proclaimed Louis Vuitton Don turned his love of sneakers — he has over 400 pairs! — into a high-end collaboration with Louis Vuitton. Out of the five styles he’s created for the iconic brand, a style with a quilted back debuted during the line’s fall menswear presentation in Paris yesterday. After the show, WWD caught up with the new footwear designer to hear more. “I was inspired by the movie Dune. The collection had all these jackets that were very padded. They looked like maybe they had hockey pads in the jacket, and there was one where the collar came up really high. I took that element, and I put that on the back of the shoe. It’s like the opposite of the tongue. Usually you have the tongue at the front. [This is] like a tongue at the back,” explained Kanye. Working with Marc Jacobs, Kanye’s favorite designer whom he dubs the Jay-Z of the fashion world, was a blessing. “To me, Louis Vuitton is the most important brand in fashion. I am proud to have collaborated with LV on these shoes and even more proud of the finished product,” the artist says in a statement. On the flip side, Marc Jacobs tells WWD that he was impressed by Kanye’s dedication to his work, saying “I think Kanye goes to the office more than I do. He’s really, really into sneakers.” The complete Kanye West collection will be available at Louis Vuitton stores in June 2009.

If you’re a Kanye fan, Louis Vuitton fan, or both, then we’ve got some great news for you. While in Paris’ Jardins de Bagatelle, Kanye teased the fashion world by announcing his collaboration on a men’s shoes line with Louis Vuitton as he says, “I’m here for Louis.” No words on the release yet, but it’s good to start saving up because this will be a collaboration for the ages.
